Seating
The Ampla is available in seat widths from 20 up to 30 inches, which combined with the 300 kg weight capcity, means it can comfortably accommodate heavier people. Unlike standard bariatric wheelchairs, the bespoke seat width and depth ensures the wheelchair fits you. This is further enhanced by the ergonomic backrest, which is adjustable to provide the optimal support and comfort regardless of your body shape.
Multi-adjustable transfer aids can be used to help with sitting and standing, and rotated to provide a resting place for the forearms. They can be removed or lowered to allow for access under desks and tables.
Frame
The sturdy, rigid aluminium frame is much lighter than traditional steel bariatric frames - reducing energy consumption when you propel. The position of the rear wheels can be adjusted to provide a more efficient and ergonomic position, and the rear wheels are sturdy mags.
The Ampla has a unique inbuilt transportation solution - with the backrest folded down it can be tipped back onto the rear transportation bearings, allowing the chair to fit through narrow doorways, and reducing the storage footprint it takes up.
The frame is available in either a white or "tech grey black" finish, with a choice of three accents - blue, pink and green. The Ampla as a whole has a minimalistic sleek appearance quite at odds with the typical steel "industrial" look of most bariatric wheelchairs.
Our Verdict
The Action Ampla is quite unlike any bariatric wheelchairs we've seen before. While it is more expensive than traditional "one size fits all" bariatric models, it provides much more - a better fitting chair, ergonomic and comfortable seating, and a sleek appearance. It is particularly suited to those who want to self-propel, having a light aluminium frame and adjustable rear-wheel positions.
