Powered autofolding scooters are a relatively new development, and Invacare's Scorpius A is a cutting edge example. The convenient autofolding mechanism saves you from having to bend down and fold the scooter up, making transporting your scooter easier than ever.
In less than 8 seconds your Scorpius A can fold down to just 77.5 x 51.2 x 54 cm. Compact and lightweight it will fit into the boot of almost every car, and can be conveniently stored in small spaces. The scooter weighs just 28 kg in total - while it is possible for a single person to lever this into a car, the Scorpius is also the ideal scooter to use alongside a car boot hoist, taking almost all the effort out of travelling with your scooter.
The airline compliant 11.6 Ah Lithium-Ion batteries provide a 9 mile range, and are ultra-lightweight. They are airline compliant (both IATA and MSDS) so can be transported on a plane. For those after a longer range, larger 17.6 Ah batteries upgrade this to 14 miles, but are not airline compliant.
The dashboard features intuitive touch LED panel controls, and is equipped with an anti-theft device to keep your scooter secure. Front and rear LED lighting includes reactive brake lights.
While folding scooters tend to compromise a little on comfort compared to non-folding models, the Scorpius-A has a decent amount of padding to its seat and good legroom. The 8 inch PU wheels are suitable for various types of terrain, and the four-wheel design ensures stability.
Our Verdict
The Scorpius A is an impressive high-end autofolding scooter. It offers better performance than the eDrive, whilst being cheaper than TGA's Minimo Autofold.
