Power Base
The Blazer is built to take you everywhere. The compact chassis is just 58 cm wide, one of the narrowest models available, making it easy to navigate through doorways, lifts and other restricted spaces. Outdoors, the Blazer has a top speed of 6 mph - most equivalent chairs are limited to just 4; you can go further and faster with the Blazer. Two-wheel adjustable suspension and large 9 inch front castors provide a smooth ride.
Seating
The Blazer has a choice of two seats. The standard Sling Seat is available in widths of either 17 or 19 inches. Powered tilt is available as an upgrade, aiding with pressure relief and positioning when using a hoist. The sling seat is popular for those that might need the chair adapted over time, as it can accommodate an alternate cushion, the seat depth can be adjusted, and the back angle can be set to a comfortable position. It also allows for provision of attendant or dual controls if required.
The Captain's Seat features a large contoured padded seat that provides great level of comfort. It is also available in 18 or 20 inch widths, but doesn't provide the option for the powered tilt upgrade. The ability to manually recline the backrest comes as standard, allowing you to lie back in the wheelchair.
Both versions feature Karma's neatly-designed flip-back armrest, ideal for transfers or access under surfaces.
Transport
The Blazer is crash-tested, making it suitable for occupied transport in a vehicle. If hoisting your powerchair, then the sling seat version is the best option as it can be folded flat to reduce the chair's height.
Style
The redesigned Blazer 2 features matt-black styling and a clean, sleek look to it - unusual in a chair of this price. A choice of three colour accents - blue, orange and white - are available to personalise your wheelchair.
Our Verdict
The Blazer 2 is one of our favourite powerchairs. For its cost it offers a great combination of style, comfort and performance - there's few other chairs out there at this level that can do 6 mph.
If you're new to powerchairs, then Pride's Jazzy 600ES is worth considering too - it's another modern chair with a captain's seat, with mid-wheel drive instead for a focus on manoeuvrability - however it is only 4 mph. Otherwise, Quickie's Q100 R and Q200 R are similarly compact chairs with seating options, albeit at a higher cost.
