Knee Scooter Hire
The Knee Scooter, also known as the Knee Walker by Drive Medical, supports the user through a padded leg cradle, and allows them to stride using their uninjured leg, whilst resting the injured leg. Designed to aid rehabilitation from foot or ankle injuries, the Knee Scooter is steered using the handlebar, from where the brakes are also operated. There is no basket as this can cause unbalancing; it’s suggested that a rucksack or the like is more appropriate.
The Knee Scooter is designed to fit all users, and has a maximum user weight of 136kg. The height of the leg cradle can be adjusted in seconds, and with adjustment holes every 25mm, it can be made to fit all leg lengths. The handlebars can also be raised for taller people. On the leg cradle itself, the leg is cushioned by a piece of moulded foam fitted to the frame.
Hiring the Knee Scooter has been found to be particularly useful when helping those with the following injuries:
- Ruptured Achilles Tendon
- Broken foot or ankle
- Sprained ankle or ligament damage
- Diabetic Ulcer
- Fractured Heel
Please note that as weight is put on the shin and knee, it is not suitable for people with injuries to those areas of the leg.
The Knee Scooter is sometimes hired alongside the Orthopaedic Leg Trolley, which offers hands-free manoeuvrability indoors.
