Progeo Ego

The Italian-made Ego is Progeo's flagship folding wheelchair, featuring an innovative and easy to use folding mechanism that provides unrivalled rigidity and an extremely light wheelchair.

Product Description

Folding Frame, Rigid Ride

The Ego features Progeo's unique Syncro Motion Folding Axle, not found on any other wheelchair. This is totally different to a traditional crossbrace - the horizontal locking system resulting in a clean, open looking frame. This still folds up to a compact size just as small as any other folding chair, but provides a much better ride performance when unfolded. While crossbraces waste a lot of your energy in "flex" of the frame, the Ego's axle is fully rigid when locked in place, ensuring your effort goes solely to moving yourself where you want to go. The Ego truly is the wheelchair with a folding frame and rigid ride.

Customisation

Your Ego will be bespoke built to you following an assessment - and every aspect can be personalised. This includes the seating, which is built for a precise fit to your biometrics, and which then retains a good level of adjustability post-build. Specialist seating can be provided with the Ego, including posture-supporting backrests such as Progeo's carbon-shell AIR backrests.

All other aspects of the Ego can be customised too, from wheels to footrests, and sideguards to push handles. This extends to the appearance of the Ego too, whose sleek Italian curves are available in your choice from 11 frame colours, with 9 further accents to further stand out.

Our Verdict

The Ego is an outstanding wheelchair for those that want the best of both - a folding frame yet a rigid ride. Its aluminium frame is lightweight, but if you want to step up a level, the Ego Custom is fully welded - no adjustability but even lighter.

The closest competitor is Kuschall's Champion, which while the crossbar works differently, operates on a similar principle - a crossbar that locks in place but can be folded up. We suggest trying both to see which folding design you prefer.

If the person using the wheelchair has a permanent disability, terminal illness or chronic sickness then they will be eligible for 0% VAT.
