Progeo Ego Custom

The Ego Custom is a fully welded version of Progeo's flagship folding chair, the Ego. By stripping out the adjustability it is even lighter than ever, for the ultimate high-performance aluminium folding wheelchair.

Product Description

Welded Frame

The Ego Custom is fully made-to-measure, individually manufactured for you for the most precise of fits. The welded joints provide a sleeker look to the Ego Custom, and focus even more of your energy into propelling yourself forwards. It also strips around 800g from the weight of the Ego - enough to make a real, noticeable difference for the experienced wheelchair user.

Folding frame, rigid ride

The Ego's unique Syncro Motion Folding Axle is completely different to the traditional crossbrace found on other folding wheelchairs. The horizontal mechanism locks in place when unfolded, resulting in the ride of a rigid chair. Simple to activate, the Ego Custom can then be folded up to a super-compact size, and the backrest folded down to further save on space.

Customisation

It's not just the size of the frame that is built to order - each aspect of your Ego Custom can be personalised - wheels, sideguards, brakes, handrims and more, with a wide range of premium options from Progeo.

Your Ego's made-to-measure frame can be provided in your choice of colours, including three exclusive matt metallic finishes. A further range of seven accent colours ensures your Ego will stand out from the crowd. While the discreet silver frame pictured has a sophisticated elegance to it, you can get a much sportier appearance too with a range of bright colours.

Our Verdict

For experienced wheelchair users, the Ego Custom is a logical upgrade from the regular Ego - you'll know your preferred set-up already, so there's no need for adjustability, and the weight saved will make a real difference. For those new to wheelchairs, we would normally recommend the standard Ego, which allows for changes to your seating set-up as you develop your skills.

Active wheelchairs are built to order following an assessment with one of our Prescriptive Assessors. They are available with a wide range of customisation options, from wheels to seating to style upgrades, and these can affect the price - our Prescriptive Assessors will run through all the options at your assessment. As a general guideline, we find most people will spend around an additional £500 - £1,500 on customisation options on active wheelchairs; however it is possible to get a fully functioning and desirable chair at the base price!

People purchasing active wheelchairs will normally qualify for zero-rated VAT. If the person using the wheelchair has a permanent disability, terminal illness or chronic sickness then they will be eligible for 0% VAT. Our Prescriptive Assessors will be able to answer any questions you may have about VAT.
