The Karma Condor Wheelchair is a robust wheelchair with an innovative curved frame that is stronger than a conventional cross-brace. This allows it to carry a much greater weight than other wheelchairs, yet remains relatively light for such a heavy-duty bariatric wheelchair.
The seat is available as standard in widths of 22 or 24 inches, but larger widths of 26, 28 or 30 inch are available at an additional cost. Seat depths of 18 - 24 inches are available, allowing the Condor to take people of all shapes and sizes.
Rather than having a conventional canvas seat sling, which have a tendency to sag over time, the Condor features a solid aluminium seat pan, offering greater support and solidity.
The Condor can be adjusted after supply, with the seat depth, backrest height and seat height all adjustable, allowing it to better suit your requirements, and to be adapted over time.
Transport
Karma's Condor can be folded for transport, and the convenient backbrace will folds up too. It is larger and heavier than a standard wheelchair, so will need a larger car boot, or for the back seats of a car to be folded, to fit in. However, for a bariatric chair it is more transportable than most, and the weight can be lessened by removing the legrests and quick-release wheels.
Our Verdict
The Condor is a good quality, well designed bariatric wheelchair, and we recommend it. It is superior to basic "boxed product" bariatric wheelchairs, with a lighter aluminium (rather than steel) frame, smart design, chunky wheels, and choice of seat sizes.
If you are after a high-quality bariatric wheelchair, the Condor is the one to consider. Invacare's Action Ampla is also worth a look, particularly if the person using the chair wishes to foot propel.
